Over time, my bookshelves have steadily filled with new titles. I wish I could say they “showed up” at a reasonable, manageable pace, but there’s just something about bookstores that pulls me in, making it nearly impossible to leave without at least one new book tucked into my bag. This has been my reality for the past few months while I’ve been away. Every time I step outside my home, these bookstores have held me captive for hours. I’m not complaining, though—only my husband bears the brunt of my book-buying spree.

As for my reading experience, they have been a rollercoaster. I’ve been adding to my TBR pile like a squirrel hoarding nuts for winter, and some of those nuts… well, they turned out to be either a hard pass or given the green light.

First up, Twisted Love. Oh, it had such potential especially with the loud hype on TikTok and BookTube about it. I’m pretty much new in the world of Romance books so I did have some level of expectations for this book. But alas, it was as shallow as a kiddie pool on a hot day. I had to wave the white flag and DNF it a third of the way through. To Carousell it goes, unfortunately.

Then, like a phoenix rising from the ashes of literary disappointment, came The Mask Falling by Samantha Shannon. This book? Pure magic! I swear, I’d sell my soul to experience that first read again. It was like diving into a shimmering, fantastical dream. And because I clearly can’t get enough of the Bone Season world, I’ve now plunged headfirst into The Dark Mirror on Google Play Books. I’m only a few days in, but already, I’m practically living and breathing alongside Paige Mahoney. We’re saving the world together, one thrilling page at a time. It’s like being swept away on a whirlwind adventure, and I’m loving every second.
I’ve also recently taken the plunge and joined the eBook reading path with a new tablet. Okay, let’s be real, a sparkly new tablet and the book-buying habit? That’s a recipe for a seriously empty wallet disaster, especially with how pricey physical books generally are around here. So, now my precious physical book therapy has been… reimagined as digital book-buying adventures.
